Abstract

505,246. Ezciting dynamos. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and DAVIES, E. C. Nov. 2, 1937, No. 29984. [Class 35] Polepieces.-A direct-current generator with multiple field windings, more particularly a constant-current generator, is provided with a flux diverter and when a controlling operation is effected tending to suddenly decrease the load current, a further control associated therewith is effected simultaneously to decrease the flux diverted from the armature. In the form shown, shunts 4 extend between the main pole 3 and the adjacent main pole (not shown) and the coil 1 comprises shunt and separately excited turns opposed by a series winding, the generator supplying marine propulsion motors. The shunt carries windings 7 energized from the same source as and in proportion to the motor field windings to produce fluxes opposing the leakage flux of the main poles so that increasing the motor field strength and thereby causing the generator current to drop suddenly decreases the flux in the shunt 4. In a modification, the shunt extends from the pole to the generator yoke.
