Dynamos, regulating; exciting; field magnets. -The shunt field 5 of a compound dynamo 1 is regulated by a manual rheostat 8 so as to keep the voltage constant up to a set limit. Beyond that limit inherent constant-current regulation is provided by opposing series field coils 6. To allow for quick decrease of field flux when the series coils respond to sudden increase of load, the field yoke 63, Fig. 6, carries the series coils 66 at the pole-tips and may also have magnetic shunts 67 placed between the poles.
