Abstract

505,231. Extruding meal pellets. PORTEUS, G. Jan. 3, 1938, No. 70. [Class 87 (ii)] In a machine for making pellets of cattle or poultry food, the plastic mixture is fed from a cooker to a vertical worm 1 having one or more complete threads which co-operates with a die 6 of inverted conical form having divergent holes 13 therethrough and one or more rotary knives 9 adapted to sever the extruded material. The material is led from the cooker by conduits 5 and is fed to the worm 1 by two lateral worms 3. The upper and lower faces of the die plate 6 are parallel and the holes 13 are at right-angles thereto and may have flared entrances arranged in annular series to cover almost the whole surface of the die plate. The worm 1 has a conical end to co-operate with the interior surface of the die and is mounted in a bearing 7. The knives 9 are carried by a collar 10 on a shaft 11 which may be driven through change-speed gearing to vary the length of pellets cut off. Specification 450,718 is referred to.
