Abstract
376,057. Extruding chicken meal &c. SIZER, A. W., White House, Davenport Avenue, Hessle, Yorkshire. Aug. 12, 1931, No. 22759. [Class 87 (ii).] In extrusion-machines for forming pellets in which material is forced by a worm through holes in a die plate and then severed by a rotary knife, a worm is used having a number of juxtaposed sections, each section containing a complete thread convolution and adjacent sections having the convolutions displaced 270‹ relatively to one another. Fig. 2 shows one form of worm made by cutting a continuous spiral on a cylinder and then dividing it into separate sections 10 .. 13 each containing one convolution. One end 15 of each thread is bevelled as shown and adjacent sections are displaced through 270‹. In a modification the last thread is deeper than the remaining threads. The end section 13 of the worm in Fig. 2 may be provided with a renewable wearing face. Fig. 1 shows the machine comprising a jacketed cooker 1 provided with stirrers 2 delivering chicken meal or the like to a hopper 4 leading to the worm 5, die 7 and rotary knife 8.
