Abstract

519,453. Moulding dough. HARBER, L. S., and BAKER PERKINS, Ltd. Sept. 23, 1938, No. 27844. [Class 87 (ii)] A dough piece for making a loaf is formed with a helical or screw shape by impressing the dough, or by coiling an elongated dough piece into a closed or tight helix. In the form shown in Fig. 1, an elongated dough piece 10 is coiled in a rotating cylinder 12 and is delivered on to a conveyer 18. In a modification, an elongated dough piece is fed on a conveyer 21, Fig. 2, to a pair of rotatirig spindles 20 which are withdrawn to release the coiled dough piece 10a. When the screw formation is produced by impressing the dough, the dough may be fed on a conveyer beneath inclined bars. The bars may be inclined in different directions or be arranged in chevron fashion. In some cases, the dough piece passes between a drum having inclined bars and a trough having oppositelyinclined bars. In the form shown in Fig. 7, a flat dough piece is wound on a spindle 46 and is then impressed by a rotating helix 47.
