Abstract

505,825. Extruding meal &c. SIZER, A. W. Nov. 28, 1938, No. 34607. [Class 87 (ii)] An extrusion machine for moulding cakes or pellets from plastic material such as meal comprises a die-plate 5 rotated by a sleeve 4 forming a guide for a coaxial shaft 6 driving and rotating a cage 7 carrying rollers 8 in contact with the die-plate. The shaft 6 and sleeve 4 have a common drive as by bevels 1, 2 from a shaft 3. Meal is fed to the die-plate ahead of the rollers through holes 14, Fig. 2, from a trough 10 formed in the cage 7. The meal is fed to the trough from a kettle 9 and the amount fed to the die-plate is varied by adjusting the size of the holes 14 by moving an apertured masking plate 11. Fixed stirrers 18 are provided in the trough. The meal is forced through perforations in the die-plate and is cut off by rotating knives 15, falls into a tray 16 and down a shoot 17. The knives are rotated by gearing from the sleeve 4.
