Abstract

504,540. Thermometers. KOHLHR, M. Sept. 30, 1938, No. 28510. Convention date, Sept. 30, 1937. [Class 97 (iii)] In a thermometer in which the capillary tube 6 is bent to form two parts at an angle, a sheath 1 with a window 2 and the scale 11, 11<1> are rotatable about the indicating part of the tube 6, in order that the thermometer may be read from any desired direction. As shown, the tube 6 is surrounded by a non- rotatable glass tube 3 which narrows at 4 and by a rotatable tube 8 haying a white' rear wall 9 and a lens front. The tube 8 and the two parts 11, 11<1> of the scale are supported by vulcanite plugs 12, 13. The lower plug 12 rests on the shoulders at 4 and the upper plug 13 is non rotatably connected by the spring 18 and a slot to the cover 19 of the sheath 1. The latter has a pair of screws 23, 23<1> engaging an annular groove in the union member 24 so that the parts 1, 8, 11, 11<1>, 12, 13, 19 may rotate as a unit about the axis of the capillary tube. In a modification, the sheath 1 is omitted and the cover 19 is rotatably mounted on the tube 3.
