[Class 126] [Also in Group XIII] In a down-draught open domestic fireplace, a stainless metal reflector is provided at the back and/or sides instead of the usual firebricks and is cooled by the circulation of either air or water through a space at its back. In Fig. 2, the water cooling the reflector a circulates in a Y- sectioned boiler b which acts also as a fuel hopper. The grate comprises sloping bars d and a reciprocable part c at the bottom. A damper g and a plate h, controlling the air entering below the grate, regulate the draught. The fire may be controlled by dampers operated by thermostatic elements sensitive to the temperature of the water or of the flue gases. Bimetallic thermostatic dampers may be provided, two to control the entry of air to the ash-pit, and one to control the entry of air to the flue, to spoil the draught. The damper shown in Figs. 9 and 10 comprises a bimetallic plate o supported on studs v<1> and adjusted by a screw z acting against a spring z<1>. In Fig. 5, the reflector a is cooled by air entering through a passage m and passing through a space behind the reflector to an outlet n. As shown in Fig. 7, additional air passages with inlets q and outlets s may be provided behind the rear flue of the fireplace.
