Abstract

503,594. Centrifugal and screw fans; ventilators. HUGHES, B. D., and FORD, E. L. July 27, 1938, No. 20732/37. [Class 110 (i)] [Also in Group X] An air deflector, Fig. 4, disposed at the outlet of a fan 1 or ventilating aperture comprises a shallow trumpet-shaped member 5 so placed that the air flows on both sides of the member, the smaller diameter of which lies between four and eight times its depth. The deflector may be arranged eccentric to the fan axis or the aperture and its flare may vary uniformly between diametrically opposite points. Several members 6 may be disposed one within the other, and at equal distances apart, and the members may be circular, rectangular, or diamond shape. A central convex deflector 7 may face the air stream. To obtain a partial back-flow, the outer ring 17, Fig. 14, may be semicircular in crosssection, the peripheral edge extending beyond the path of the tip of the fan blade. The inner members may extend for only half the circumference of the outer member. The deflector may be adjustable axially.
