Abstract
502,495. Barium. I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE AKT.-GES. Sept. 20, 1937, No. 25486. Convention date, Jan. 9. [Class 82 (i)] In the production of barium by the reduction of materials containing barium oxide by means of silicon or aluminium, the proportions of the ingredients of the mixture are so adjusted that the molecular ratio of barium oxide to reducing agent lies between 3À5 : 1 and 4À5 : 1 in the case of silicon, and between 3À5 : 2 and 4À5 : 2 in the case of aluminium. Alkali or alkaline earth fluorides, particularly barium fluoride, may be added to the reaction mixture.
