Abstract

501,985. Electrolytic condensers. HUNT, Ltd., A. H. (Solar Manufacturing Corporation) Sept. 9, 1937, No. 24651. [Class 37] In a method of producing an etched aluminium container-cathode for an electrolytic condenser, the etching is effected by electrolytic action to increase the effective surface area, as by passing a direct current from the container through a solution of common salt to a copper cathode. In an example of a condenser thus formed, an etched container 11 is closed by a lid 14 perforated at 16 to coact with a rubber diaphragm 15 to form a vent. The anode comprises a spirally coiled aluminium foil 25 connected to a rod 26 extending through the neck 12 through a rubber plug 29. The anode 25 is provided with apertures 28, shown as slots, to facilitate circulation of the electrolyte. A perforated insulating screen 27 prevents contact between anode and container.
