501,886. Heating by chemical action. UNITED STATES APPLIANCE CORPORATION, REYNOLDS, F. L., and MARKEL, L. June 29, 1938, No. 19330. [Class 64 (ii)] A chemical heating-pad for permanent hairwaving consists of an assembly 10, Fig. 1, of one or more sheets of absorbent asbestos paper 12a, 12b, 12c, with one or more interposed sheets of aluminium foil 13a, 13b. The assembly is perforated with holes 14 to facilitate saturation with the chemical solution that is applied to the assembly when required for use A solution of a mixture of copper sulphate, sodium chlorate, aluminium sulphate and ammonium chloride may be used. An outer wrapper of metal foil coated on its inner surface with a thin sheet 17, Fig. 5, of waxed paper, together with an absorbent sheet 18, Fig. 5, is folded over the assembly 10 to form the pad ready for application to the hair curler.
