[Class 131.] An electric heater for hair-waving comprises an electric resistance unit of thin metal foil insulated by sheet material so that the whole can be bent to surround a curl or the like. The heater is combined or used with the usual laminated hair-waving pads. In one construction the metal foil 24 is furnished with terminals 22 and wrapped in a folded sheet of asbestos fibre 25, 26. A folded sheet of aluminium foil 28, 29 surrounds the fibre and is, in turn, surrounded by a folded sheet 31 of parchment or other impervious material. Finally one or more layers 34 of cotton, flannel, or other absorbent material is placed on the side of the appliance adjacent to the scalp when in use. In a modification, all the folds of the doublesheets are at one end of the pad, and one of the' metal layers is arranged outside the parchment layer, being passed through a slit in the parchment for this purpose. The parchment sheets: are longer than the foil and asbestos sheets in order to increase the area of the pad and oneterminal projects rearwardly instead of laterally. In another modification the heater is preformed in a circular shape to surround a lock of hair. In another modification the layers I<1>, Fig. 23, of absorbent material are formed separately and the heater A<1> is applied thereto, the combined heater and pad then being bent round andclipped on to a lock of hair as shown. Other constructions are shown in which the laminated pad, as distinct from the heater, is formed separately or is detachable so as to be thrown away after use, while the heater is re-used with a fresh pad.
