Abstract
501,594. Lubricating ; bearings. KIPOUROPOULOS, N. Aug. 28, 1937, No. 23600. Convention date, Aug. 28, 1936. [Classes 12 (i) and 12 (iii)] The bearings 13, 13<1>, for an electric trainway trolley-arm roller 3, are lubricated when running, by oil which is collected from a reservoir 4 by an upstanding flexible conduit 6. The oil passes through a horizontal groove 5 in the fixed axle 2 to the bearings, and excess is returned through holes O, O<1>, to the reservoir 4. Oil leakage is prevented by helical channels 7, 71 in the axle 2, and by spring pressed packings 8. When the roller 3 is stopped oil runs down outwardly flared channels 9 in the sides of the reservoir 4 and into the bearings through holes 15. When the roller is assembled the flexible conduit 6 lies within the groove 5. The number of couduits 6 and channels 9 may be increased. The interior of the roller may have conical recesses 16 so that when the groove 20 on the roller has worn excessively oil escapes on to the overhead line and its presence indicates that the roller requires renewing.
