Abstract
501,285. Insulators. - REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A., and AMER, D. F. Aug. 23, 1937, No. 23098. [Class 36] The projecting portion A of a bushing insulator is immersed in insulating fluid within an insulating shroud H so mounted and shaped that it can move slightly to compress the fluid and biassed as tc move to maintain the fluid under pressure, The insulator comprises a metal sheath C having a flange C<SP>1</SP> attached to the cover D<SP>1</SP> of a compartment D secured in an opening in the top plate of the apparatus casing. The shroud H is connected at its lower end to a thin, preferably corrugated, flexible metal diaphragm L by means of rings M, N bolted together and gripping a flange H<SP>1</SP> on the shroud,the ring M being attached to the diaphragm L and the ring N being integral with a plate N<SP>1</SP> extending over the diaphragm and carrying guiding bolts 0 passing through the cover D<SP>1</SP>. At the upper end of the shroud, a flange H<SP>2</SP> is gripped between rings R, S, the ring R being secured to the outer edge of a diaphragm K, the inner edge of which is secured to a fitting T carrying a terminal T<SP>1</SP> and in sliding engagement with the conductor B. A retaining plate U, resting on a rib T<SP>2</SP> on the fitting T comprises holes through which pass the bolts S<SP>1</SP> connecting the rings R, S, heads S<SP>3</SP> on these bolts coacting with the plate U to limit upward movement of the terminal fitting relative to the shroud : downward movement is limited by contact of the fitting with the ring R. The passage of fluid between the fitting T and the space within the shroud and between such space and the compartment D is allowed by flutings B<SP>2</SP> in the conductor B and by a clearance between the diaphragm L and sheath C respectively. The weight of the shroud, when the bushing is mounted vertically, maintains the fluid under pressure: springs may however be provided round the bolts 0 to urge the ring N towards the cover D<SP>1</SP>.
