Abstract

[Class 134] In an umbrella provided with lazy-tong stretchers pivoted to the stick and to the runner 6, the outer member 9 of one series of lovers 3, 8 is provided with an elastic extension 9<1> secured by a link 14 to a limb 10 so that when the stretcher is extended the links 14 curve the extension and maintains the stretcher in its extended state. The portion 9 is suitably twisted and provided with a slotted arm 13 in which the link 14, fitted with holding studs 15, slides. An apertured bracket 11 is used for securing the cover. Hollow pivots may be used and strengthening rods are connected between the pivots 18, 19 and 20, 21. A flared portion 24 of the runner may be used to depress spring catches to cause shortening of the telescopic stick.
