Abstract

1,096,445. Pocket umbrella. KORTENBACH & RAUH. March 4, 1966 [March 4, 1965], No. 2025/66. Heading A4P. A pocket umbrella comprises a telescopic stick 5, a main slide 4 with main struts 3, an auxiliary slide 9 with auxiliary struts 7 connected with the main struts, arranged so that the two slides move towards each other when the umbrella is opened, and spring means on the auxiliary slide for urging the auxiliary stays to swing into the open position. The spring means may include springs each having a pair of limbs 8 (Fig. 1) the limbs being joined to a piece of wire passing round an auxiliary strut 7 while the other ends of the limbs are fixed to the auxiliary slide 6, or it may include springs having single limbs 10 (Fig. 2) one end of each limb being wound around an auxiliary strut while the other is fixed to the auxiliary slide. In the former case the ends of the limbs are fixed by a sleeve 9, and in the latter by a piece of wire 11. The ends of the springs remote from the stick 5 may be made broad, e.g. by making the springs T-shaped, so that they engage two or more of the stays 7.
