Abstract

500,570. Field control of D.C. motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., JEWITT, D. E., and MARSH, R. D. Aug. 11, 1937, No. 22126. [Class 38 (iii)] Varying E.M.F.- The field 4 of a motor 1 is supplied from a source 3 in series with a booster 6 driven by or independently of the motor. As described in Specification 479,056, the booster 6 is differentially excited by a field winding 7 connected in series with the motor armature, and a field winding 8 energized from the source 3, and an increase in the strength of the field 7 increases the strength of the motor field while an increase in the strength of the field 8 decreases the strength of the motor field. In the present system the motor 1 is supplied with a variable voltage from one or more generators 2, the field or fields of which are controlled by a regulator 10 which may also control the field 8 of the booster.
