Abstract
500,512. Stuffing - box substitutes ; ball joints. CHICAGO RAWHIDE MANUFACTURING CO. April 20, 1938, No. 11862. Convention dste, Mav 17, 1937. [Class 122 (v)] [Also in Group XXV] A closure boot, fur a ball-and-socket joint in motor car steering gear, comprises a flexible sleeve 19 secured to one part 16 of the joint and rotatably mounted at its other end in a ring 20 secured to the other part of the joint. A metal ring 38 may be secured to the end of the jacket and slidably youuted in a groove in the ring 20. The fixed end of jacket may be secured in a ring 24 pressed on member 16 or in a ring 40 having an intmued portion engaging a groove 44 in said member. Alternatively it may be secured by a clamping band. The jacket may be in one or two parts and of leather or moulded rubber-like material.
