[Class 46] A filter for benzine 01 other liquid hydrocarbon comprises a bag 1 of deerskin or other material impermeable to water and of conical shape with rounded upper end. The liquid is delivered to the interior of the bag through a pipe 14 which has per forations 15, directed ob liquely upwards, and the upper end closed. The hydrocarbon filters out ward into the casing 9 and is discharged throngh an outlet at the upper end. Water and other impurities fall from the inner surface of the bag into a chamber with a glass wall 19 which may contain colouring matter, such as potassium permanganate, which is insoluble in hydrocarbon but soluble in water. As shown the bag 1 is arranged between similarly shaped perforated plates 2, 3.
