Abstract

1, 043, 928. Cleaning filters. HOLSTEIN & KAPPERT MASCHINENFABRIK PHOENIX G.m.b.H. Sept. 17, 1964 [Sept. 20, 1963], No. 37962/64. Heading B1D. Sludge cake which has formed on the rectangular filter elements 3 which are disposed vertically and parallel to one another within a closed casing 1, 2 is removed by means of jets of fluid under pressure issuing forth from apertured pipes 9, the pipes being movable between the elements 3 to allow the jets to play on all of each filter. A hydraulic piston 14 joined by a hollow, connecting, fluid carrying rod 12 and by a cross pipe 8 to the pipes 9 causes the pipe system to be vertically reciprocable. During normal filtering the pipes are held by means of a holder 18-20 above the level C-D of the unfiltered liquid which has entered through 6. On clogging the holding device is disengaged and fluid is introduced through a valve 22 to the space above the piston, the fluid passing through the pipes at the upper region of the elements. By opening valve 25 fluid is let out of the space below the piston allowing the pipe system to be lowered, so cleaning all of each filter. To raise the piston, valve 22 is closed, valve 23 opened, valve 25 closed and valve 24 opened. An observation socket 27 and an internal light 30 are provided. Fluid within the casing is released through valve 32 . Sludge is removed through socket 7, or if in dry form through a discharge screw, and filtrate through outlet 5.
