Abstract
498,830. Hand - irons. ALADDIN INDUSTRIES, Ltd. July 13, 1937, No. 19442. Convention date, July 17,1936. [Class 138 (ii)] Relates to hand-irons for burning heavy liquid oil fuel. In the form shown in Figs. 2 and 8, the oil is forced from the reservoir 18 by air pressure created by a manuallyoperated piston pump 28 housed in the handle through a tube 37 having a restricted passage and a valve controlled by a knob 50. The oil is vaporized initially by the combustion of methylated spirit in a dish 60 surrounding the tube 37 and having a lip 61 accessible from outside the iron for filling the dish when the iron is up-ended as in Fig. 8. The vaporization is continued by the heat from the burner and sole plate acting on the tube, and the gas is mixed with air and passes through a bent tube 55 to a rose burner 56. A pressure relief valve and a filling aperture are provided in the reservoir. In the form shown in Fig. 17, the tube is provided with two coils of which one is subjected to the heat from the burner for continuing the vaporization of the oil which is started by the passage of the oil through the other coil 77 which is arranged in a chimney 100 above a recess 102 in which the methylated spirit is burnt. When the vaporization is proceeding satisfactorily, the chimney is closed by a damper 105 actuated from outside the iron to prevent cold air sweeping past the coil 77. The valve chambers controlling the supply of fuel are provided with pins for cleaning the gas nipples operated by control devices from the outside of the iron.
