[Class 13] [Also in Group XXXIX] In a microphone or like device for converting acoustical vibrations into electrical oscillations and comprising a diaphragm and inner and outer polepieces, a damping member 37 extend. ing across the gap' between the inner and outer polepieces is formed with two concentric annular recesses, one of which forms a chamber 55 in direct communication with the space at the rear of the diaphragm and the other of which in conjunction with the outer polepiece forms a second chamber 57, said two chambers communicating through small grooves, slots or passages 56 and said second chamber being provided with restricted outlet passages communicating with a space which is closed to the atmosphere and which may be constituted, for example, by the casing 21 of the device. The chambers and passages are shaped and dimensioned to provide an image impedance which is constant for the frequencies to be transmitted.
