Abstract

497,566. Photo - electric devices. RUPP, H. June 29, 1938, No. 19280. Convention date, June 29, 1937. (Class 39 (i)] Photo-electric mosaics for television &c. are made by suspending finely powdered photo-electric crystals in a highly insulating liquid of dielectric constant higher than the crystals and allowing the suspension to settle on the surface of an insulating body such as a cleaned mica plate. The crystals may be of about À001 mm. diameter and of zinc blende, artificially prepared zinc sulphide or zinccadmium sulphide phosphor or zinc silicate and the liquid may be organic, for example, purified nitro-benzene or hexane. During the settling, the temperature of the suspension is kept constant, preferably slightly above atmospheric temperature, and the crystals acquire a charge preventing them from sticking together.
