Abstract

607,135. Luminescent screens. PALMER, A. J., and HAZLEHURST, A. N. Nov. 16, 1945, No. 30746. [Class 39 (i)] A luminescent screen is made by settling from a suspension of the phosphor in a medium in which potassium or sodium silicate is present in solution. In the example, zinc borate is precipitated by mixing sodium borate and zinc nitrate, filtering, drying and powdering, and it is then added to distilled water in the tube to be treated, the powder being allowed to settle and form a layer of zinc borate. The phosphor. e.g. zinc cadmium sulphide, and potassium silicate are made up into a suspension and introduced into the tube through a funnel terminating in four symmetrically placed holes which direct the liquid upwardly and outwardly. After settling for 2-3 hours, the supernatant liquid is poured or siphoned off and the screen dried. Boric acid may be introduced into the tube and allowed to dry and form a protecting layer over the luminescent screen. Specifications 502,919 and 591,506 are referred to.
