Abstract
A dielectric target, for use in a television camera tube, has a cavitated surface, the cavities being deep relative to their width and/or having steep or undercut side walls. The target may be of CORNING 0080 lime soda glass, 5 microns thick, with the uneven surface produced by a layer of similar or coloured powdered glass or a ceramic applied thereto by settling from a suspension. For example, powdered glass, prepared by ball milling crushed glass and sieving to obtain a particle size of less than 7 microns, may be suspended in distilled water containing strontium nitrate and potassium silicate, suitable proportions being given. The target is immersed in this suspension and the powdered glass is allowed to settle. The powdered glass may be caused to adhere to the target by sintering or by the prior application of a glass solder. Alternatively the cavitated surface may be produced by etching.
