Abstract

497,515. Worm - and wheel gearing. DUTFIELD, A. E., RAWLINGS, E. J., and RAWLINGS MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. Feb. 7, 1938, No. 3771. [Class 80 (i)] [Also in Group X] A regulator mechanism, more particularly for full-drop and half-drop vehicle windows, comprising an actuating worm wheel 2 and worm 3 mounted above the worm wheel, an actuating handle 10 incorporating a spring- urged slipping clutch 7, 8, to prevent straining of the mechanism, is provided with a thrust spring 14, mounted on the shaft of the worm 3, which urges the worm in the same axial direction as it is urged by the weight of the window pane, in order to prevent opening of the window due to vibration and shock. The thrust spring is preferably of rectangular cross section. The worm wheel 2 is mounted on a horizontal shaft 1 which extends across the window opening, and which at its ends may carry pinions engaging with racks mounted at the vertical edges of the window, as described in Specification 439,837, [Group X].
