Abstract

496,977. Cycle brakes. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd., and SPECK, T. R. Sept. 21, 1937, No. 25546. [Class 136 (i)] In brake mechanism of the calliper type, associated with a bell-crank actuating-lever mounted on the back stays of the cycle frame, the back plate of the calliper brake has fitted to or formed thereon an upward extension or bracket on which is mounted a lug for the pivotal attachment of the bell-crank lever. The back plate 1 and an upward extension or bracket 2 are mounted non-rotatably on the bolt 7 employed to attach the brake to the bridge tube 8 of the back stays 9, and the bent upper end 3 of the bracket 2 has attached to it a lug 4 to which is pivoted a bell-crank lever 5 of a rod and lever transmission mechanism. The bracket 2 is provided with side arms 10 to engage the back stays 9 and thus provide a rigid support. The stirrup 11 which carries the rollers 12 actuating the brake levers 13 is connected to the bell-crank lever 5 by a screw-threaded rod 14, which passes freely through a swivel member 16 and is fitted with a nut 17 for adjustment of the brake.
