496,071. Magnetic separators. HUGHES, P. A., and TRAVANCORE MINERALS CO., Ltd. June 26, 1937, No. 17878. [Class 72] A casing for a magnetic separator comprises two substantially rectangular frame members each provided at its four corners with a polepiece and assembled together with a core disposed between them, so that the separator may be of the inductive or deflector type in which the longitudinal axis of the core is horizontal and the material to be treated fed by gravity on to rollers placed between pairs of polepieces or alternatively the separator may be of the lifter type in which the casing is placed in a position in which the longitudinal axis of the core is in the vertical position, the feed rollers being replaced by a conveyer. In the first type of separator, the material to be treated is fed from shoots 11 by plates 12 on to rollers 14 arranged between the detachable pole 5 on the frame 2 and the pole 5 integral with the frame 1 carrying the core 3 surrounded by a winding 4. The magnetic material passes away on a plate 15 and the other material is led by plates 16 on to further rollers 14 the magnetic material being led away on a plate 15 and the non- magnetic on a plate 16. The core 3 may be integral with, or detachably connected to the frame 1, and the poles 5 detachably secured to flat surfaces at each end of the frame 1. In the second type, Fig. 3, the polepieces 5 on the frame 2 are provided with sharpened points 19, the material is fed on to the conveyer 18 by a shoot 20 and conveyers 21 pass round the upper polepieces 5 to remove the magnetic material.
