Abstract

237,150. Rushen, P. C., (Krupp Grusonwerk Akt.-Ges., F.). Nov. 18. 1924. Magnetic separators.-In a magnetic separator of the type in which the material is acted on by a series of poles of alternate polarity co-operating with a common armature, the alternate poles are magnetically connected to opposite ends of a common core and all co-operate with the same surface of the common armature. One set of poles 3 are cast in one with the core 2 excited by a coil 1, the other set 5 being arranged between the poles 3 and carried by a frame 4 mounted on the core 2. The common armature comprises a plate or disc 6 and rings 7, and is carried by a rotary vertical shaft on which it may be adjustable vertically. The material to be separated is fed to a hopper 8 and flows radially over the cone 9 and the guides 10 to the spaces between the poles and the rings 7 set at progressive heights relatively to the poles. The non-magnetic material passes to a box 11 and the magnetic material drops between the poles. In a modification, Figs. 5 and 6, the poles 3 are staggered relatively to the other poles 5 so that together they form successive poles, a fixed armature 12, under which runs a conveyer belt 13, being arranged over every two poles. The material to be treated is fed into hoppers 14 and is fed therefrom into the space between the armature and each pole, the magnetic material being carried by the belt and dropped into boxes 15 between the poles, the non-magnetic material passing transversely to the direction of the motion of the belt into boxes 16. The poles may be arranged to be in one series and form successive or consecutive poles.
