Abstract

495,942. Vehicle seats. WHEDON, L. G. S. April 8, 1938, No. 10853. Convention date, May 1, 1937. [Class 52 (ii)] Relates to adjustable vehicle seats comprising. front and rear sets of pivotal supporting links and means for maintaining the seat in adjusted position as described in Specification 448,306. According to the invention, the front supporting links 20, Fig. 1, are shorter than the rear supporting links 22 and are situated at a distance from the front edge of the seat bottom which is substantially greater than the distance between the rear edge of the seat bottom and the rear supporting links, and the arrangement is such that the pivotal movement from a rearwardly inclined position to an approximately upright position imparts a progressively greater degree of upward movement to the rear edge of the seat bottom than to the front edge thereof. As shown, the supporting links 20, 22 extend between channel members 15, 30, and are strengthened by a transverse brace 55, Fig. 2, with flanges 56 between the rear links 22. The flanges 56 have extensions 57 connected to tension springs 60 anchored at their other ends to fixed points 62. Locking links 33 are pivoted between the bottom pivots 28 of the rear supporting links and pivots 35 on notched slides 40 movable in the upper channel members 15. The notches of the slides 40 are adapted to be engaged by latches 44 pivoting on a transverse spindle 47 under the action of springs 53. The latches 44 have lugs 49 fitting with lost-motion in forks 50 fast on the spindle 47, and a handle 48 is provided on the spindle to enable the latches to be turned out of locking position when adjustments are to be made.
