Abstract
495,831. Moving signs. TAAFFE, T. May 18, 1937, No. 13892. [Classes 3 (i) and 3 (ii)] A sign having an opaque facia with a stencilled cut-out or translucent design, &c. has an electric discharge tube located parallel to the facia, a stationary light diffracting sheet behind the facia, and a moving perforated plate arranged between a light source and the diffracting sheet. The discharge tube may be located in front of the design and be shaped correspondingly thereto, as shown at 11 in Fig. 1, or may be repeatedly bent to form a uniform field 35A and be placed behind the diffracting sheet 22, Fig. 4. The perforated plate 23 is carried by a spiral spring 25 and a strip spring 26 which carries an armature 27 whereby the plate can be vibrated by an intermittently excited magnet 28. A separate tube lamp 35 may be placed behind the plate 23, as are also coloured lamps 30 which light up the design, &c. from the rear. The casing may have glass walls to admit extraneous light.
