401,151. Electric discharge tube signs; changing signs. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London.- (Assignees of Patent-Treuhand-Ges. f³r Elektrische Gl³hlampen; 11, Ehrenbergstrasse, Berlin.) Feb. 14, 1933, No. 4555. Convention date, March 10, 1932. [Classes 3 (i) and 3 (ii).] In a sign of the kind comprising a plate at the back of which are insciptions &c. illuminated by an electric discharge tube or tubes arranged adjacent at least one edge of the plate, the inscriptions &c. are provided with a white or coloured backing which does not extend to the remainder of the plate. As shown, letters i formed by etching or sand blasting in a glass plate b mounted in a box a and illuminated by a discharge tube d which may be flashed, are provided with a white or coloured backing k which may consist of or include fluorescent or phosphorescent substances. The box a is provided with a projecting edge g for engaging feet h. In a modification the letters are formed from the backing material which is arranged in a thick layer on the back of the glass plate. Two glass plates each provided with an inscription may be arranged back to back with a non- transparent plate between them.
