495,736. Motor-vehicle steering and controlling gear. METROPOLITANCAMMELL, CARRIAGE & WAGON CO., Ltd., KIDD, J. W., and RAYER, F. H. Sept. 15, 1937, No. 25033. [Class 79 (v)] In a vehicle having a body carried on a frame which has a front wheel spring mounting such that relative movement may occur between the spring mounting on the frame and an adjacent part of the body, the steering-gear mounting and preferably also the brake-gear mounting is secured to a separate support member attached to the body. In the construction shown, the body a overhangs the body frame c, d in front of a bulkhead b, the front ends of the vehicle springs f being connected at e to a transverse frame member o. The steering gearbox i, the foot-brake shaft j, and the hand-brake lever n are mounted on a support member p secured at its front end to a body member h and at its rear end to a frame bracket t at a part remote from the spring connection so as to be unaffected by distortion due to spring movement. The shaft j is further supported by a transverse member w fixed to the body, and carries the usual brake pedal k and a power brake pedal m. The member p is secured at the front end to a body member h, and a corner stay u is provided.
