Classes 79(iii), 79(iv) and 79(v) A frame unit for a motor vehicle chassis frame having inter-connected longitudinal members is adapted to be rigidly secured directly on the front part of the chassis frame and is provided with shackle brackets for the front ends of the front axle springs and with support means extending laterally outwardly of one of the longitudinal members for mounting the vehicle steering column and controls at a position near the front end of the frame so that the chassis frame for a goods motor vehicle, in which the driver is seated behind the engine, can be converted to the chassis frame of a motor vehicle, such as a bus, in which the driver is, seated alongside the engine. As shown the conversion frame unit is secured to the longitudinal members 17 and comprises parallel channel members 10 carrying the shackle brackets 55, 61 and connected to a cross piece 11 by angle brackets 12. Connected by a bracket 19 to the cross piece 11 is a vertical bracket member 18 which is welded at its end to a transverse bracket plate 23 which is connected by an angle bracket 24 to one of the members 10. On the bracket member 18 is mounted by nuts and bolts the steering box and column. Mounted on an upwardly extending bracket 29 secured to the plate 23 is a bearing 32 for a clutch operating shaft 33 carrying a pedal 34 at one end. The shaft 33 is also supported in a bearing 38 on a plate 35 fixed to the member 10 and is connected to the clutch through a linkage 34<SP>1</SP>. Also mounted on the plate 35 is a bearing 39 for a shaft 40 carrying at one end the brake pedal 41 and connected at the other to the brake linkage 41<SP>1</SP>. The conversion unit also includes a foot plate structure formed on flanged plates which are secured to the body structure.
