Abstract
495,709. Exhaust systems. JAMESON, R. W. May 13, 1937, No. 13495. [Class 7 (ii)] Exhaust gas is extracted from an engine exhaust pipe 1, which is surrounded by a cooling - air jacket 6, by a fan 4 driven by an air motor, operated by the slip - stream past the vehicle or aircraft on which the engine is mounted. The air motor may comprise blades 5 combined with the fan 4, and mounted on ball bearings 8, the motor being driven by the cooling-air which is collected by a scoop facing forward. A fan may also be provided at this end. The flow of the exhaust gas may be steadied by radial blades 3, and that of the air by longitudinally, or spirally, extending partitions, or fins, in the jacket 6.
