Abstract
495,397. Spectacles. WILLIAMS, A. F. May 11, 1937, No. 13457. [Class 97 (i)] In spectacles having curved lenses, the upper edge of each lens is recessed or grooved on one or both faces and is fitted within a channel section frame member the side limbs of which embrace the curved edge of the lens and engage the recesses or grooves. In Figs. 1 and 2 the mounting for the lenses 10 comprises two channelled strips 12 having at their inner ends inclined strips 13 against which the edges of the lenses abut. The upper edges of the lenses are grooved or recessed so that they can be slidably engaged by the strips 12. As shown in Fig. 8, each lens is provided with a recess 16 and is shaped to form a dove-tail 15. In the form shown in Fig. 10, the lens is provided with a single groove 25 on one face and the mounting has an inturned flange 32 engaging the groove. The bridge 11 and the end pieces 36 are connected to the inner surfaces of the channels. The lenses may be secured in position by cement.
