494,487. Tractor - trailer couplings. McGREGOR, A. M. March 11, 1938, No. 7574. [Class 103 (v)] In a tractor-trailer coupling of the kind in which the draw-bar secured to the trailer engages and is capable of moving transversely on a curved guide frame 11 attached to the tractor, the guide frame is formed from a casting having upper and lower plates 10 provided at their forward edges with tracks 13, which are engaged by a pair of rollers 17 mounted in a two-part carrier extending longitudinally and connected to the trailer. As shown, each part of the carrier comprises a stem 18 integrally united to an arm 16 which lies outside the plates 10, while one part of the carrier also has an arm 20 which projects between the plates 10. The stems 18 are bolted together at 19, and the arm 20 is fitted with rollers 23 which work on the plates 10 and take the weight of the fore part of the trailer. At its forward edge the frame 11 is furnished with a series of holes 12 for attaching it to the tractor in central or off-set relation, and, in order to assist the return of the rollers 17 to a central position, the mid-portions of the plates 10 are depressed relatively to the lateral portions.
