Abstract
494,240. Fastenings. INKLEY, B. April 22, 1937, No. 11543. [Class 44] Boards are attached to purlins by one or more latches pivotally mounted on the side of the board adjacent the purlin when in position, the latches being disposed clear of the purlin prior to placing the board in position and being adapted to be rotated from the side of the board remote from the purlin when in position by means of the pivot member, which is adjustable to accommodate boards of various thicknesses. A latch 1 is pivoted on a board A by means of a bolt having a slotted end 16 in which a screwdriver can be inserted to operate the latch. An upwardly bent portion 14 of the latch 1 engages a flat on the bolt head 12 to ensure that the latch turns with the bolt and a turnedin end 10 provides a seating to produce a more even distribution of pressure when the latch is clamped by the nut 18. The part 8 of the latch is given the same inclination as the face of the purlin 20 which it engages. In a modification, for enabling an adjacent board to be attached to the board A, the end 10 of the latch is turned outwardly instead of inwardly, and extended, a tapped hole being formed in the extension to receive a screw passing through the adjacent board. The embodiment shown in Fig. 1 may be used for attaching a beam to a girder, the bolt being long enough to pass almost through the beam which is recessed to accommodate the nut and washer. In a modification, Fig. 4, the latch is formed so that the board is spaced away from the purlin when in position.
