Description

July 29, 1952 c, HAFFNER 2,604,805,
CAPOTASTO Filed Aug. 1'7, 1950 Patented July 29, 1952 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CAPOTASTO Grover C. Hailner, Los Angeles, Calif.
Application August 17, 1950, Serial No. 180,009
1 Claim.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a capo tasto which is inexpensive and easy to apply.
The object of my invention is to provide a capo tasto which is effective and which can be used on guitars of considerable range in size. I also seek to produce a device of the fewest possible number of parts. These and other objects are accomplished by such means as are shown in the accompanying drawings, set forth in the description, and more particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my device as applied to a guitar.
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
l is the conventional guitar handle, having the usual six strings with their tightening screws 3 and frets 4. My capo tasto 6 is clamped across the strings at such point along the handle as to secure the desired pitch.
As best shown in Fig. 2, the capo tasto is composed of two similar halves 1 and 8, these being of metal and each being of L-shape. The short arm of one L is placed upon the corresponding part of the other L, so that in assembled relation the two halves form a channel shaped member to embrace the guitar handle. To secure them in such relation the part I has an opening in which is anchored the squared portion 9 of a small bolt provided with a wing nut II. This bolt slides in a slot l2 in the short arm of the L 8. Thus the two halves 1 and 8 can be assembled and pressed together over the guitar handle I. The wing nut II is then tightened 2 to hold the parts in desired relation. On the lower face of the upper half I is secured a pad 13 of cork or felt which presses directly upon the guitar strings, thus changing their pitch.
Because the parts I and 8 can be adjusted upon each other they can be easily applied to guitar handles of considerable variation in thickness.
Having thus described my invention, I claim: A device of the character described comprising an upper L-shaped member having a relatively long horizontal leg and a relatively short downwardly extending vertical leg provided with a squared opening therein, a lower L-shaped member having a relatively long horizontal leg, and a relatively short upwardly extending vertical leg having a centrally disposed vertically extending slot therein, a headed nut extending through said opening and said slot, said nut having a squared portion adjacent its head adapted to closely fit within said opening, a wing nut threaded upon said bolt, and a pad of yieldable material affixed to the underside of the long leg of the upper L-shaped member.
GROVER C. HAFFNER.
