Abstract

Fabrics or yarns are weighted and rendered crease-resisting by treatment with a solution of a synthetic resin to which has been added at the initial stage of condensation an organic aliphatic amino compound having not more than 5 carbon atoms, or a salt thereof, and heating to condense the resin in situ. A preferred resin is urea or thiourea with formaldehyde or paraformaldehyde to which is added cyanamide, dicyandiamide, guanidine, thiodicyanodiamidine or aminoguanidine; an organic acid may be added, e.g. lactic or acetylsalicylic acid, and the solution preferably has a pH value between 3 and 10. In examples: (1) thiourea and guanidine carbonate are dissolved in water, formaldehyde added and the solution allowed to stand; a cotton fabric is impregnated with the solution, dried, heated to 130 DEG C. for 30 mins., soaped, rinsed and dried; (2) urea and guanidine carbonate are dissolved in water, formaldehyde added, the mixture boiled, cooled and adjusted to pH 5-6, by adding lactic acid; a viscose crape fabric is impregnated, squeezed, heated to 130 DEG C. for 30 mins. and soaped. Other mixtures employed are (a) thiourea and dicyandiamide with guanidine nitrate, (b) urea and formaldehyde with guanidine nitrate. Specifications 435,871 and 449,243 are referred to.
