Abstract
493,807. Pile fabrics. BALDASAR, J. Sept. 23, 1937, No. 25858. [Classes 142 (ii) and 142 (iv)] Hand tufted carpets and rugs have the tufts knotted round. warp threads A, B, in the particular manner shown in Fig. 7. A bar 4, Fig. 11, is moved downwards and " movable " threads A connected by loops F to a bar N are brought behind '' free " warp threads A, as shown in Fig. 14. These threads may be separated further by inserting a rectangular bar and turning it through 90‹. The weaver then crosses a thread A to the position shown in Fig. 4, in full lines and inserts a cut length of wool &c. C, Fig. 5, between the threads A, B. Afterwards he releases the thread A, grasps the tuft ends, pushes the tuft down on to the previous row, allows the thread A to resume its normal position, and, after completion of a row of tufts, inserts wefts D, E, Fig. 8. The movable warp threads may be displaced all together or one or more at a time by means of a half-heald arrangement comprising loops K connected to a bar S operated by a lever M &c. The tufts may be knotted round groups of threads.
