Abstract

398.733. Warp-pile carnets &c. STEVENS, A. H., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Co., Inc. ; Thompsonville, Connecticut, U.S.A.) Feb. 23, 1933, No. 5531. [Class 142 (iv).] A reversible carpet &c. has one tread surface comprising pile tufts which may be coloured to form a design, and an opposite tread surface comprising soft padding wefts 2, which may be printed or stencilled to form a design. The fabric has straight stuffer warps 4 passing above the wefts 2 and below the anchoring- wefts 5 for the tuft yarns and also below separating wefts 6 lying between the rows of tufts. The tuft yarn loops rest on the padding wefts, which are bound to the anchoring-wefts 6 by binder warps 7, whilst warps 8 bind the wefts 5, 6 together. The padding wefts are thereby held in contact with each other and conceal the interior structure of the fabric. They may be of soft spun cotton twisted to form ply yarns. Hard twisted wefts 9 are used therewith to resist the cutting action of the yarns 7.
