Carpets; pile fabrics.-In making shaped Axminster rugs on an Axminster type loom, a rectangular base C is woven and a tufted body A is simultaneously formed thereon an the form of tuft trows of different widths by using loom tuft spools B as shown in Figs. 5 to 11 corresponding to rows 5 to 11 in Fig. 1, and appropriate intermediate spools, then trimming off the base at D and securing it by a line of stitching E, Fig. 3, or else trimming away the entire base and sewing a tape around the edges of the rug at F, Fig. 4. Wastage of tuft yarn is thus prevented.
