Abstract
493,701. Electrodeposition of tin. PRISTON, H. R., HOTHERSHALL, A. W., and BRADSHAW, W. N. April 7, 1937, No. 9926. [Class 41] Tin is electro-deposited from a solution containing #-naphthol or an amyl phenol. A protective colloid and /or a sulphonic acid obtained by sulphonating cresol, phenol, or benzene may also be present. Protective colloids specified are gelatine, glue, peptone, gum tragacanth, gum damar, gum catechu, gum mastic, gum arabic, lysalbic acid, if desired in presence of alkali metal ions. Solutions cited as examples contain stannous sulphate and free sulphuric acid, cresylic acid sulphonate, lysalbic acid, and #-naphthol or p-isoamylphenol. The Provisional Specification also specifies as hydroxy compounds, mono-, di- and trihydric phenols such as aminophenols, cresol, alpha-naphthol, aminonaphthol, anthrol, anthranol, phenanthrol, purpurin, resorcinol, and as a protective colloid, protalbic acid. A solution specified contains stannous sulphate, sulphuric acid, cresylic acid sulphonate, lysalbic acid, resorcinol and anhydrous potassium, sodium, or ammonium sulphate.
