Abstract
493,126. Pistons; raising liquids by momentum apparatus. BIRKIGT, L. Dec. 30, 1936, No. 35736. Void. Convention date, July 23. [Class 122 (i)] [Also in Group XXVIII] In pistons in which cooling liquid is circulated in a closed cycle inside the piston by resistance bodies, e.g. serrations 15, 16, which oppose a greater resistance to motion of the liquid in one direction of flow than in the other during the piston reciprocation, the liquid flows from the piston head along the inner and outer piston walls. Oil may be projected on to the inner wall 10 to assist cooling. Serrated conduits may be cast or cut in the piston wall or the conduits may be provided by the space between inserts 5 and semicircular chambers 8.
