Abstract

A soldering-flux is prepared by mixing together (a) phosphoric acid, (b) a mixture of powdered ammonium chloride and a liquid or pasty medium, e.g. glycerine, and (c) a material consisting wholly or mainly of rosin. Preferably the rosin, which may be mixed with rosin oil or tallow, is melted and heated to about 120 DEG C.; the phosphoric acid is then stirred in and an intimate mixture of ammonium chloride and glycerine added gradually to the molten mass. The preferred proportions are 60-80 parts by weight of rosin with 5-15 parts of each of phosphoric acid and ammonium chloride and 5-10 parts of glycerine, or with 5-15 parts of each of phosphoric acid, ammonium chloride, and glycerine, and 15-30 parts of rosin oil or tallow. The flux may be heated to 100-120 DEG C. and allowed to flow into a sheath of solder or may be forced in by pressure during extrusion of the sheath.
