Abstract

492,478. Heating by electric resistances. HADDAN, R. (Moffats, Ltd.) July 12, 1937, No. 19292. [Class 39 (iii)] The metal sheath of an electric heating element is formed from a flat-bottomed channelshaped strip 1, Fig. 2, having its margins 2 directed laterally from the sides 3. Electrical insulating powder 4, Fig. 7, is compressed in the bottom of the channel and a flattened coiled resistance 5 is placed therein. More insulating powder 4a is compressed on top of the resistor, and a metal strip 8 is placed on top of this. The parts 3a are then bent in to overlie the strip 8, and the margins 2 are welded together to form a flange 2a. One or more elements may be bent to form a grid, Fig. 8, having the flange 2a depending from the sheath. Channel members 14, 16 rest on a reflector 17 supported by the stove top 20 to which the grid is hinged on pivots 13a.
