Abstract

604,711. Electric ovens. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and SHAW, B. Nov. 30, 1945, No. 32399. [Class 39(iii)] In an oven, particularly a domestic cooker with a heating element of the sheathed wire type i.e. having a continuous length of resistance material enclosed in insulating material in a metal sheath the element has a part at the side of the oven in a vertical plane or parallel to the side and a part at the base of the oven in a horizontal plane or parallel to said base. Two elements 7, may be thus arranged with the horizontal parts almost meeting in the centre line of the oven and placed nearer the door 1 than the rear of the oven. A further element 8 bent as shown is placed on each side. The elements project through the rear of the oven for connection in parallel or otherwise to a switch. A removal bottom tray and side guards or an oven interior of known form protect the elements, the sheath of which may be of brass-aluminium alloy. The door 1 is hinged at the base 2 to provide a lower air inlet 5, and vent holes 4 are shielded by a handle 3 near the top of the door. The cooker may have a hob with hot plates and a thermostat.
