Abstract

335,540. Thompson, S. June 24, 1929. Electric hot-plates. - An electric hot-plate, griller, &c. consists of a number of elements on which the kettle &c. to be heated can rest directly mounted on terminal boxes with which they have frictional engagement so that any one can be readily removed without disturbing the remainder. The elements consist of wires 2 embedded in clay &c. in insulating tubes 3 of steatite or like material covered with metal sheaths 1. The wires are connected to blades 5 shaped as shown and held in place by insulating blocks 9 with sufficient play to allow them to adjust themselves in the terminal boxes. The blades 5 engage with blade springs 6 enclosed in recesses in terminal boxes 8 of insulating material. Connection is made with the springs 8 by screws 13 passing through the bottoms of the terminal boxes as shown or through the sides. The terminal boxes are provided with metal shields 29 formed as shown in Fig. 4. The edges 24 of the metal sheaths 1 are turned over as shown to fit over the edges of the shields 29 and prevent liquid from reaching the terminal boxes.
